The EPA recently released a shocking report which alleges that Volkswagen and Audi have been cheating consumers for years. The report suggests that the Volkswagen and Audi TDI Clean Diesel vehicles do not actually comply with the emission standards that it represents to consumers, and, in actuality, the vehicles emit emissions that are more than 40 times higher than the federal standard.
Worse yet, Volkswagen and Audi installed software in the affected vehicles that allows them to cheat on the emissions test. Commenting on the report, Cynthia Giles, the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance at the EPA said, "using a defeat device in cars to evade clean air standards is illegal and a threat to public health."
Among the affected vehicles, the report states that it applies to:
- Volkswagen Jetta (model years 2009-2015)
- Volkswagen Beetle (model years 2009-2015)
- Volkswagen Golf (model years 2009-2015)
- Volkswagen Passat (model years 2012-2015)
- Audi A3 (model years 2009-2015)
